How Much Is My Military Hearing Claim Worth?
It is impossible to say precisely how much you could claim following hearing damage while serving in the armed forces without taking a variety of factors into account.
These can involve:
- How the damage occurred – was it during active service or during training?
- Where the damage occurred – was it on home soil or in a foreign conflict / training exercise?
- When the damage occurred – did it happen recently or a long time ago?
- How any complaints were handled – if it was brought up with a commander was it dealt with properly?
- The type and severity of the damage – is it due to acoustic shock, tinnitus or occupational deafness?
- The effect it has had on the claimant’s life since the damage
Serious and long-lasting hearing loss is likely to receive a higher level of compensation than more moderate issues, but compensation can be awarded not only for the hearing damage and any physical injury that may have occurred, but also for any financial expenses and losses (sometimes referred to as special damages).
A case of mild tinnitus or slight hearing loss could lead to a compensation pay-out of between £3,000 – £7,000*.
Someone suffering from more serious tinnitus or a severe reduction in hearing ability could expect to receive between £7,000 and £19,000* in compensation.
Complete deafness – with or without ongoing tinnitus could result in a compensation pay-out of up to £100,000* or more, depending on certain factors such as on-going care or significant changes to lifestyle or employment prospects.
